Latest update to Chessbase 10

I'm looking to find out the latest update for Chessbase 10.

I recently purchased a used copy of Chessbase 10 CD from ebay. After completing the activation process, I selected the Check for Upgrades process. It said that there were no updates needed. On the About Chessbase page, it lists July 2008. It seems hard to believe that the CD would be the latest update.

Were there no updates/patches/or service packs needed for CB10, or was July 2008 the latest? Since there is no place I could find to see the patches, I can't check for files.

Chessbase customer support  -- A classic oxymoron!

Used software? With a license that includes updates?

sangahm

Sure, I could (and have) do that.

However, I'm expecting their response to be "if the program said there were no updates, then there are no updates."

Just wanted to check with users of CB10 to cross-check and verify.

I would think that updates to the software would be fine.  Or if they were like any other software publisher, there would be software patches that could be downloaded outside of the application (like they used to on www.fritzserver.org/updates/cb10.exe).

Hopefully an owner of CB10 can tell you what the latest patch was. I know that Chessbase recently dumped their fairly useful support page in favor of one that only seems to support the latest product versions. Maybe they also decided to dump the patches for older software? Nothing Chessbase does would surprise me.

I have seen in various old forums that there were later releases, including at least a Service Pack 2, but finding it may be challenging.

Hey sangahm.  I understand you would like the update, and it is a reasonable thought as well.  However, although I am not familiar with chessbase at all, I would guess your CD already has some few millions games in it, right?  Isn't that good enough for you to actually start doing what you bought it for?

TetsuoShima

can you get the new games with the old chessbase version??

Ziryab

If the update that you seek is a flaw in the software, then it might be reasonable to expect to find a patch that even works with pirated software on the ChessBase site. However, ChessBase 10 is now two versions back and five years old.

Updates to the database are a cash cow for ChessBase. They sell those as subscriptions. But there is a work around: http://theweekinchess.com/.

I am not trying to get new, updated games for CB.  I have millions of games already from many places on the net including TWIC.

I'm looking for updates to the code, ie. bug fixes.

What would a person do that purchased CB10 when it first came out, then bought a new computer this year?  He would have to load CB10 on it, and would reasonably look for chessbase to update the previously purchased software, right?  That's what virtually all software vendors do.

Email support. I've had good results when I've done that.

sangahm

Yep, that's what I've done. <crossing my fingers>

If email support doesn't reap rewards; This is the only thing I could find. The last link at the bottom of the forum page seems to still be active if you use the Internet Archive. What SP it is and whether it really works is unknown.

Chessbase thankfully did respond to my email.  SP6 is the latest update.

Cool! It turns out, the link I posted was for SP5. So the email support is even better.

Something else must be going on, as I use CB10 with Win7.

No, it wasn't me who had a good experience with Chessbase customer support, it was sangahm. I've never had to contact them. My plan is to never get myself into the position of needing CB customer support, so that I won't be disappointed. Wink

Ziryab

I had a good experience when I contacted them. It was several years ago.

When I have needed help with ChessBase products, the first thing I do is look for answers in the series of articles by Steve Lopez. However, those explain how to use certain features, not what to do when there are technical glitches in the performance of the software.

I recently had the need of the same i.e. Chessbase 10 SP6.
