Looking for ipad chess app with excellent AI opponents

I've looked at a few that claim to have AI opponents that can be adaptive, and those that can play with different styles, like aggressive, positional, etc. Please post the ipad app you like with these features, and what you like about it. There are so many to choose from! Thank you.

I'm not so sure about what you are looking for. Stockfish probably is not exactly adaptive but it's quite likely the strongest there is for iOS.

I basically use a mediocre chess-app to give me a lift once in a while, if I feel I need one and when I want to witness really good chess I play Stockfish or Critter and try to improve on my "how long I can survive"-value.

I read that Hiarcs has the most human like playing style, also on lower levels.

On the iPad I am using Chess Pro with Coach (it has the Chess Tiger engine). You can set it to different playing styles. I like the coach function on this program. And the fact that you can play variations, and even variations on variations, which is very nice if you are playing back a game. The graphics are also very nice.

I second lexvo above.  The Chess Pro with Coach app has a great sparring partner and the variation functions make it great for going through a game.  Hiarcs and Shredder are also great on the ipad for sparring partners!

But if you are only going to get one I would get Chess Pro with Coach.

Personally I like shredder. Shredder lite is free so you may want to check that out to see if you like it. The paid shredder also has a bunch of tactic puzzles in it. You can set the shredder rating or put to adaptive then it will adjust its strength after every game you play based on the results. It has a coach mode ,meaning if you blunder it will ask if you really want to make that move (you can have that function either on or off). You can also choose a playing style ex. Aggressive , safe, passive etc

Shredder lite is only available for the iPhone.

Which means you can use it on the iPad.

True. But I find iPhone apps on the iPad don't give the same user experience as native iPad apps. But for trying out it is certainly good enough.
