According to the description on Amazon, this is an abridged version of Pachman’s three volume “Modern Schachstrategie.” I don’t see a 3 volume set by Pachman titled “Modern Chess Strategy,” but there is a 3 volume set called “Complete Chess Strategy” (comprising “Planning the Pieces, “Principles of Pawn Play and the Center,” and “Play On the Wings”). Are those the books that were abridged to make the one volume “Modern Chess Strategy”?

Yes.

Pachman also wrote "Modern Chess Tactics: Pieces and Pawns in Action".

I have all four of the Pachman books Atomic_Checkmate references. I read the first two volumes of the Complete Chess Strategy trilogy many years ago and found them to be excellent. I just did a quick thumb through of the four books and it looks like the general concepts and principles in Modern Chess Strategy are the same (or similar) ones discussed in the trilogy, but he uses more and different games to illustrate them in the trilogy. For example, the discussion regarding the bishop and open diagonals in Modern Chess Strategy takes a page and half and discusses one game, while the same topic is covered in the first volume of the trilogy over seven pages discussing seven games.
