Medieval Themed Chess Set

Hello,

I assume this is is the right place to post this. I own a chess set that was bought by family friends in Greece 30+ years ago. The original box has been lost (if it ever had one) and the people that bought it are no longer around to answer questions about it. There are also no logos, names or anything else like that on it.

I was just curious if it was something special or just an ordinary set. Each piece is made of clay and hand painted with great detail and the board is real wood, perhaps mahogany but I am no expert so I could be wrong.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Mr_RiddleO, very cool set but I haven't a clue about it.  I love the various themed sets out there as display pieces but I only have eyes for Staunton. ;o)

Do you know anywhere that I could look for this sort of thing? I can't find it for sale anywhere but I was wondering if there was anywhere else I could look or anyone I could ask.

Update: After looking at even more stores I have found something that is very close to it by Italfama. The white pieces as far as I can tell are identical but the black pieces are different. In this set, they are just recoloured of the white pieces. And the board is also very different.

Looking on the Italfama site I can't find either version of the set on there. This is very interesting, perhaps my set is rarer than I first thought.

The difference is clear:

I know this is 3 years late but i has the EXACT same chess board as you! It was originally my great uncles and he said he got it as a present about ten years ago which makes me think that it hopefully is still available to buy somewhere. Also we live in England so I’m guessing if your family friends bought it in greece and my great uncle got it in England it could be a company that made it so it could still be available. Maybe your set isnt as rare as you thought😁
