Interesting.  I will have to try connecting to my ipad to see if that solves the BT disconnection for me

When I play on chess.com I use android. However, I do also use the app called white pawn for other uses. The white pawn as of today is probably my most used app with the enone board. It works with ios and android.

I will have some more specific use case information available in the immediate future."

I tried the white pawn app with the eone board and it works very well!  I have only used it for engine matches so far.  Is it possible to connect white pawn to chess.com or only Lichess?

@CFossa

To my knowledge, only Lichess  wink

thanks

I just took delivery of a new e-one from the US. I have been playing chess.com on my iPhone and also on the PC through the website.

Try as I might and following all forums under the sun, I could not get the board to work through the website despite there being claims the e-one is a compatible DGT board.

Suffice to say today in exasperation I threw the towel in and went to the supermarket and got a super cheap android phone (for wifi only) just for chess.com and lichess. It all works well through that. I want to just play chess, not waste time solving insurmountable connectivity problems. It shouldn’t be this hard.

@86_beans:

I understand your frustration having just purchased a Chessnut board with many of the same connectivity issues.  However my case is worse because I'm all Apple so the Mac will likely never work.

I think the meaning of "compatible DGT" is thanks to a 3rd party, Graham O'Neill (sp?), who has written adapters that convert Millennium board commands into DGT commands.  I think you are missing his adapter to act as a go between your eOne and your PC.   Look back in this thread and you will find comments and links from him to where you can get the adapter.

Bumping this thread to ask: Are there discussions somewhere in these forums on how to replace the pieces for the eOne?

Rsava

@chessroboto - this is one their site:

https://computerchess.com/en/Piece-set-eOne/ET-M841-FS

And this is at Raphael's place (ChessHouse), it says sold out maybe ping him and ask if he will be getting more in stock.

@rsava Thanks for this but I meant to ask if anyone here has changed out the factory pieces with their preferred pieces that are in different styles and materials. Is it as simple as using foil stickers like the ones for the Pegasus?

Ah!

I just tried, the pieces I modified for the Pegasus with the foil bottom appear to work.

The big issue is that the piece set is so small, it would be tough to get a decent set to modify. But if I can get a set that works well, I might have a new travel board. Thanks for thinking of it, I never would have thought about it.

Here are pics (or it didn't happen, right?) -

Thanks for this experiment. Now we know it is just as simple to upgrade at the very least. Getting the right size pre-cut foils for the smaller set will be key.

I wonder if our European friends might like the look of large pieces on the eboard from your photo.

Rsava

Oh, I like slightly crowded boards but the K&Q are much tooo crowded.

I have a punch tool I got when making the DGT pieces, the two smallest ones are perfect for that size of pieces. A roll of foil stickers (what I used for the DGT) and that punch set, I am ready. Now to find a good wooden set for a decent price.

Rsava

HAHA!! I just tried the eOne again with @joernupbde Chessconenct extension.

What a great way to use it. I may have found my travel board, if I can just find a good set of pieces that fit. I may have found some but do not want to pay $90 for a set for this board. The little pieces it comes with are just too darn small.

Chesshouse has wooden Staunton pieces that have 2 1/2inch kings with 1 inch base for $50+.
Millennium also sells Timeless (German knight) pieces for their King Performance model for $60+.

Oooh, many thanks.

News flash - just tried for fun some of my other pieces. The Chessup pieces work without any modification.

The SquareOff Pro pieces, sort of (hard to tell completely, they are so big and the magnetic bases repel each other).

Obviously the original DGT Pegasus pieces do.

My Prevision Chess "Ecliptic Style" set seems to work without modification (again, so large, hard to test completely).

And I have a magnetic travel set that works without modification.

I have two sets on order, a 2.5" King and a 3" King. I'll find something to do with them if they don't fit well (maybe give them to a local school for prizes).

But I do think I have finally found a use for my eOne, as a travel set.

Cannot wait to see pictures of what you will use with the eOne.

Here you go. I went with the 2.6" King, the set is a little plain but I think it is better than the included set with the e-One. I am going to use the 3" set for my Pegasus since I think it fits the board better than the Zagreb I modified.

The e-One pieces:

Slightly crowded, just how I like them. Overall, not bad for a $14 set.

The original pieces:

And a comparison

I think it is a nice little upgrade for $14.

chessroboto

The 1 inch base of most Kings at that height really shows how small the square inch real estate of the eOne board. It’s still better than the stock plastic pieces. I suppose producing thin pieces is the trick to not making the board look crowded despite their similarity in terms of height.
Thanks for sharing the pictures. Beats simply imagining how they would look in real life.

Rsava

Honestly, the tall thin pieces just make the board seem "toyish".

These wood pieces are much more substantial.
