Millennium Supreme Tournament 55

I'm currently using a Chessnut Air to play online, and while it's working well, I'm thinking about upgrading to a full-size wooden board. The Millennium Supreme Tournament 55 has caught my attention, especially since it's officially supported by chess.com.

However, I still have a few questions/concerns, and maybe there are a few owners of that board that could help address those:

  • Is it possible to play rated games on chess.com with this board?
  • There have been reports about the board's surface being very sensitive to scratches, dents etc. I also read on a different forum that Millennium has changed the surface material around late 2022 or early 2023. Has anyone here purchased the board somewhat recently and can comment on it's durability?
  • Do people still experience issues with individual pieces not being recognized out of the box or after a few months? Again, I've seen reports of such issues, but none seem to have been very recent.

I’m afraid I can only answer your question about rated play, and the answer is yes, you can play rated games on Chess.com. I have the Millennium Exclusive, so I cant speak to board construction materials on the ST55; but I do have some thoughts about switching to Millennium from Chessnut. I think Millennium makes quality equipment, and I’ve never had any issues with my board in the 6 years I’ve owned it, but you will have to deal with with power cords and the ChessLink Module if you go with the ST55. That’s not a terrible thing, as I think the ChessLink Module adds a lot of versatility, but it will be a different user experience from the more self contained Chessnut setup.
I recently bought a DGT Peagaus, and while there’s no question that the Millennium board is better with respect to functionality, stability, and piece sensing, I find I like the self contained nature of the Pegasus. This is especially true for online games since it’s super easy to rotate the board if I get assigned black.

I just bought a ChessNut pro and I was quite disappointed with the quality of the pieces. They felt very light and also the way they moved across the board was not a nice feeling, it felt like they were scraping across the board and i think this will cause scratches over time as the pieces don't have a fully covered foil underneath the pieces. other than that they are pretty okay but yeah i didn't like the fact that the board was kind of very pale and also a little hollow when you bang on it

That is disappointing indeed. I was also considering the Chessnut Pro as an alternative. Did your set already come with the new, upgraded pieces, i.e., those with the pointier bishops? Did you order directly from the Chessnut website?
