My review of Take N Play chess set.

I recently purchased a compact 2D checkers form chess set from Walmart.com. It is called Take N Play Chess from Play Monster. I mainly wanted to get this set to work on puzzles with small amount of space. The pieces have a chess.com Neo style of chessmen printed on top of tiny foam magnetic checkers disc. This set is marketed for kids to play on the go mainly. The board is printed on the right side of the tin container. Black and White squares with red outlines. The chessmen do take up the whole square. The magnets on the chessmen are strong enough to where they will not move when turned sideways, upside down, or even shaking the tin container. However the chessmen are quite easily moved using your fingers. The tin container opens up like a book. With the rules of chess on the left side and the board on the right side as stated earlier. Personally I would not use this to play chess with. It is kind of difficult to move the back rank pieces with pawns in front of them. There are so many other options to play chess at a sit down environment. Being in a car ride or plane it seems to be the best way to use this set to play a game. Also to use as a chess puzzle tool is an option and as stated earlier in my review. My only concern is over time the printed chessmen might begin to come off and the board will become overly scratched up with piece movement. The tin container is a thin gauged sheet metal and does kind of buckle slightly when opening. At least from the one I purchased. Not exactly a fan of having the rules of chess printed on the inside of container but I get it for whom this is marketed for. Other than some of my concerns. This is an inexpensive compact chess set that you can play with on the go or use a tool to work out puzzles with limited space or even on the go. Can make for a good Christmas or Birthday gift to friends, family, Toys for Tots and whomever you want to give to. Here are a few pictures of the set and I will link where I purchased it from.

Here is where I purchased this set. $7.99 is an excellent price especially having it shipped to your local Walmart for free shipping.

Pretty great value for $7.99; this would probably be $20-40 from a retailer of chess equipment lol
