Need brick and mortar chess store in NJ

Does anyone know of a good chess store in New Jesey? After tons of online research into chess books and sets, I find when they arrive they're not what I hoped for.

I'll drive anywhere in New Jersey to see a large collection of chess books. No more online shopping for me.

Thanks!

Regards,

Lou

Are there any?  I'd prefer not to drive to NYC.  Want to stay in NJ.

I'd say a good quality book store would have them in stock. Used book stores tend to have quite a collection in my neck of the woods. I doubt there are many shops that deal in strictly chess related materials.

I bought a couple books at barnes and noble in paramus. Seemed like they had a decent selection

I went to NJ last September and I know what you mean about not going into NYC. I landed in Newark and could clearly see the NYC skyline and was like he11 to the nope! I'm not going over there.

Too bad. There's a nice chess store over in Hell's Kitchen I think. Either there or in Greenwich Village.

@BoardMonkey the store is called ChessForum and is in Greenwich village, 219 Thompson St, New York, NY 10012. There is also ChessUSA aka Your Move Chess & Games located on Long Island; 832 N Broadway, North Massapequa, NY 11758.

In NYC, but has all the books you need. Worth the drive. He's opening back up again on the 25th.

Cash or check only.

Strand Books has a lot of chess books in the basement.

Totally worth a train trip into the city. Thanks people. For some reason I sometimes find myself in the vicinity of NYC.

@mattmelnick I know Fred Wilson.  His little spot looks like a chess book museum.

@KineticPawn where is his spot located? Would love to check it out?

KineticPawn

It's across the street from Union Square in a thin building. The "Store" is actually just a 1 room suite but it's floor to ceiling shelves books, posters and other chess stuff.

41 Union Square W #718, New York, NY 10003

Just want to add that I would definitely call ahead of time because he often steps out to coach and other things.

@KineticPawn Thank you.  I work not too far from there. I will try to stop by next week

Wish I could help, but I live in Cali. There should be more brick & mortar chess stores all over the country. I honestly like shopping in real than going online.

If you're interested in playing regular OTB chess and you work by there you should take a serious look at Marshall's Chess Club. It's located at 23 West 10th Street. The club has a decently sized lending library as well.

Whenever I’m in NYC I try to stop at Fred's shop, and always leave with a bag of books, just a word of warning Fred doesn’t take plastic. Here is my haul from my last visit.

can't wait for my next visit.

@KineticPawn Thanks for the suggestions.. I've been to the Marshall chess club many times.

@chessreader156 Awesome haul. Can't wait to visit this shop.
