Need lightweight software recommendation

Hello,

When I'm reading chess books, I need to play out the algebraic notations. Sometimes, I don't always have a chess set beside me.

So, does anyone know of a lightweight program that can allow me to set up positions and then move them around on a board with algebraic coordinates? In other words, a simple, lightweight program like the "set-up positions" function in CM, even better if it could save/load PGN and support multiple chess boards.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Serexl

P.S. I don't use CM or Arena when I just need to quickly setup a position, because they're bulky, not lightweight. I'm just looking for a program that mimics an actual chess set! Thanks!

Use Chessbase Light.

You can do one better by getting something on your mobile phone if it supports smartphone applications.

I've got PocketGM and Pocket Shredder on my Windows Mobile and I use that as my book-reading buddy for precisely the same needs as yourself.

If it must be a laptop or PC app., consider the very popular chessbase clone => SCID. May not be "lightweight" but it is free and quite fast to run.
