New Book on the 1972 World Chess Championship match?

With this year being the 50th anniversary of the 1972 World Chess Championship match between Boris Spassky and Bobby Fischer, I thought it would be a good time for a definitive book on the match to be published.  A deep-dive into all aspects of the match, with interviews from those that were there at the time, all the behind-the-scenes intrigue and so forth.  Does anyone know if anything is in the works?  It's still an event that fascinates to this day.

As fascinating as it was, there are already plenty of books out there on it.  I seriously doubt there is much new to be found.

I thought that John Donaldson's book "Bobby Fischer and His World" that came out a little over a year ago offered the best chance at new information.    I enjoyed it.

Frank Brady's "Endgame" was also very entertaining.

The HBO documentary "Bobby Fischer Against the World" was also very worthwhile.

Does the John Donaldson book give much info on the 72 match?

I really like my Svetozar Gligoric one from the event. There's enough gameplay info and event chaos for anyone lol.

I would guess, Timman will continue to write about Fischer, last year he published "The unstoppable american - Bobby Fischer´s road to Reykjavik". Timman has written a book on the match many years ago with Euwe. I guess he will publish a new book on the match or maybe a new edition of "Fischer - World champion". Tibor Karolyi wrote also a book on Fischer, which was published last year. It´s also about Fischer´s road to Reykjavik. I guess he will write the continuation, maybe he has already, and it will be published in the autumn.

The new stuff isn't about the facts of match but alternative interpretations of what had been going on with Bobby, such as the 2002 confession of fixing games discussed here: https://www.quora.com/How-did-Bobby-Fischer-train/answer/Jason-Taylor-16

Bobby Fischer basically homeless his entire life!? I think that´s just not true.  (According to the article in Quora).

Thanks for correcting the error Noblestone.  When was he not homeless?

Very cool that a book is coming out.  I also prefer pictures of them instead of graphics but still it's great a new book is coming out.

Are you talking about homeless in a philosophical sense? Was he homeless from, say 10 years to 30 years old? Some sources?

Bobby Fischer 1972 World Chess Championship has this not be done to death ?  So he won but could not defend his title afterwards , nervous.png

"Are you talking about homeless in a philosophical sense?" No.

"Was he homeless from, say 10 years to 30 years old?"

You misquoted me.  I wrote basically homeless.  But, but he was less homeless during some of this time than other times.

"Some sources?"
I probably have over 30 references in the answer.  It depends on the exact time period of his life which ones are relevant to that question. Again, if you think my claim is incorrect the burden of proof if upon you to say when exactly he was not basically homeless instead of making me document every second of his life here.  Here's what perhaps you should have written instead: "Wow. This is the only person in the world who has made a claim that Bobby F was basically homeless his entire life.  It could be brilliant and original research, but I'm skeptical because it's different from what I've read about him in the past."

The best in detail book, IMO is “Chess World Championship 1972” by Larry Evans and Ken Smith. If you can find a copy, get it. All the games, and times, commentary at EACH move, paragraphs of insider info. Fantastic book on the match

Yeah, whatever, i have read a lot about Fischer, and your claim sounds dubious.

I also doubt Fischer´s life as a child was more tough then f.ex. Spassky´s. I think he even had a better childhood (Fischer).

I don't know enough about Spassky but I would doubt it.  I mean, Bobby likely father didn't supply housing for them and only gave a little bit of money as scientists aren't that well paid. Bobby's mom lived in shelters which means that's also where Bobby lived.  Later she worked as a welder, schoolteacher, riveter, farm worker, toxicologist assistance, and a stenographer, but when she was working that means Bobby didn't have any parent.  I realize Spassky's wikipedia page discusses leaving due to war but that should have been a brief duration as compared Bobby's entire childhood.

While i wait for Karolyi's book and Timman´s (?), i might read an icelandic classic, "Fischer gegn Spassky", written by Freysteinn Jóhannsson and Friðrik Ólafsson, published in 1973. In the first part of the book, there is a lot of information about the match, what was going on etc ... in the centre a lot of photos, then the second part, analysis by Friðrik Ólafsson, he analyzes all games of the match, around 182 pages of analysis!
