Zarkov Chess Boards & Chess Pieces sounds good to me.!
New chess company name

I usually would say something like: don't worry about the name, if your quality is good people will learn your name... and stuff like that.
But in your case, I think you need to worry about the name, I got over a million results on google when I type: Custom Wood Creations... and the first result a .com domain doesn't display anything related to chess. After more extensive search found there is a .net website that is doing chess boards, I going to asume that is your's. The .net didn't show in the first 10 of my original search.
So here is an idea: Many of the creators of chess sets use their personal name to brand their product. So brand like Staunton, Jaques, Drueke... and so on are in fact the names of those people. I would tent to believe that at the begining they didn't formaly created a company, they just built stuff and put their names on it, eventually it was stablished as a brand.
Branding your own name in your product also gives a sence of art product. It is more personal.
I am inclined to say "Piece on Earth", "Board to Death" and "The Loch Chess Monster" but you don't need to use those.
Good luck with your business!

Hi, what type of chessmen are you going to offer? Dubrovnik, Staunton or something else? I would recommend using SolidWorks and at least a six-dimension CNC machine, the best way to go!
How about the American Chess Company (ACC)? Inline with the British Chess Company
Good luck,
PC

They will be Staunton-style sets.

I agree using my name would give it more panache, by my name is too boring. Joel - too short and simple. Will - it's a verb!

I was thinking Grandmaster Chess?
I could use the rating categories to name the different quality levels of the pieces and boards. The Senior Master series, the National Master series, and the Expert series. Thoughts?

Have you consider changing your name?

You need to find a domain with the word chessboard in it and that should be the name of the company. Shouldn't be difficult to get into top ten in google, when some one is searching for custom chess boards.
Best of luck

Hi Joel, will you be importing the chess pieces and just making the boards here? No idea for a name for you but quality gets around fast and speaks for itself. Just don't ship out any chess sets that have some pieces that don't pass muster.
JW Grandmaster Chess Products
I like this name as it has your initials in it that gives you identifiable individuality. It also is descriptive of what you are producing and selling. And it has what you said you wanted with the Grandmaster Chess part, giving you the opportunity to have the different lines you mentioned.

I love this idea! As the above mentions you have your own initials in it which makes it sentimental and then you have the name you wanted! Brilliant! I love how the levels are going to work also. Master, Advanced, Expert, etc. For grouping the design of each board into a different category. Perfect!

How many years (decades?) will you be aging (curing) the hardwood before milling/carving, if you're going to be making the chessmen (& chesswomen) out of wood?
Else, using improperly cured hardwood leads to pieces prone to cracking after a year or so.

Joel there is a thread about how a chess board should be properly made. Mostly it is about joing the wood together. " internal joinery between each square and between the squares and the border, rather than merely gluing everything together" That was cut & pasted from some one who says just glueing isn't good enough.
Now I am curious what is your opinion and how do your boards go together. Thanks, Mike
I'm not sure if I am allowed to post this or if this is the right categorie, but the moderators can move or delete it as they see fit.
I have been building and selling high end wood chess boards under the name Custom Wood Creations for the past 8 years now and chess boards are the only thing I produce. I will soon start offering chess pieces. I want to change my company name to something more chess-oriented, and I am struggling with determining a new name. So, I'm hoping to get help here.
If you were able to choose a name for a new chess supplies company, what would you use?
