Nicest Chess Bags

Hi, All!

I'm looking for a nice chess bag, one that might be aesthetically appealing and very handy functionally.  In particular, I'd like one in which I can fit a hard bound score book in, so i don't have to worry about forgetting the silly thing all the time.  I saw the House of Staunton has a nice one with their cool logo on it.  Does anyone have it and have something positive to say about it?  Any other suggestions?

I love the one I have, it fits a slightly oversized board, my big clock and has room for my hardbound scorebook. I purchased it at last year's World Open, IIRC, but will try to figure out who sells it.

You have a House of Staunton bag, right?

Chessmo

Here is my bag, sold be Rochester Chess. I also like the high quality strap on this one, whereas my old bag the strap was the piece that ended up failing.

Sweet.  My strap broke within 4 months, so that's good to know.

I think that the House of Staunton bags are built the best.  They are the most expensive as well.

If you want to carry a folding board, wood, then their Deluxe Tournament bag is the one.  The front area has elastic bandoliers to hold a Chess set.  I usually put my Championship Series set or a plastic set when I go to a tounament for skittles play,  The main compartment also has pouches for a set and clock as well as a loop to hold a roll up board.  And there is a lot of room for your hardback scorebook.

If you do not need to carry a folding board their Standard Tournament bag is the one.  It is the roomiest of all bags in this size category.  And I have seen or owned most all, including the one pictured above.

Both bags are made of a heavy material with a good shoulder strap.

Good luck.

Thank you very much.

The Chess Store also sells a premium chess bag.  Mine has help up for years.  --->> THE CHESS STORE TOURNAMENT CHESS BAG

It pays to buy quality.  I've found that the lower priced canvas bags often have sub-par stitching and don't hold up.

Actually a fellow that I sort of mentored has one of these bags.  It is nice.

I agree that it pays to buy quality and it is usually the stitching and sometimes the zipper where quality tells.

I really like a canvas bag that I bought from Chess Cafe. But they seem to be down for the count at the moment. It's very roomy and durable. I haven't seen anyone else sell this same bag.

I second the Chess Store Bag, it's my favorite out of the seven bags I own. Superior quality, and well worth the price. I use it for a 4-1/4" boxwood and shessham set.

Do you have a link?  I went looking, but could not find.

They seem to have closed up shop for the moment, David. Not sure what's up with that. I did see another site with the larger version that stores a folding board. But mine is a regular bag for a rolled board and I just can't find any other vendor that has it. But perhaps one will show up on ebay. Here's a pic:

Looks like mine, but much higher quality.  Thanks.

I have a nice black leather one I bought from USCF back in the late '90's.

You and I lucked out when they were dumping all their stock. I believe I bought that super deluxe bag which is as high quality as any other out there for about $8. I should have bought a couple at that price. They had demo boards for $10 and so many true bargains. I know WSC bought out what they had left in a take all move.

You will not see these anymore at Chess Cafe since they are gone from the retail business as far as I can tell.

I also nailed Caissa edition books for 1/2 price or less that they sell for at their site. And who remembers those great wooden chess sets for $25 or so, easily worth about $120 anywhere else.

Moral is when you see a bargain buy it.

Except you need to keep an eye out for cracks in those bargains Embarassed

No cracks in the quality I received from Chess Cafe prior to going OOB. They just dumped it all and then WSC bought the rest. Was a great time to get a demo board at the time if you needed it for $10. These were first quality, everything was. The bag I got for $8 was a $50 bag.

Eyechess

I also got some really nice stuff from them, dirt cheap.

I bought a few of their Passport portable sets for $8 each.  And I bought a few of their 1.875" vinyl boards for my analysis sets for a ridiculously cheap price.

Well, I wasn't quite as lucky as I bought mine back when they were full price. But that was still a bargain. I also should have bought another along with chess sets when I had the chance.

This also explains why Wholesale Chess Is where I saw the larger bag on sale. (Took me a minute to realize that you meant Wholesale Chess by WSC. Though I don't have one of those, a local chess friend did have one. It is certainly a great deal at $20. (Though I do prefer the clock pocket in my bag to the clock straps in the large one.)
