NOJ: Best Chessmen Ever vs Dubrovnik Chessmen

Sort:
Craigodile

Hi all!

First post and hopefully not a question that has been asked and answered a million times before! I did have a scroll back through the forum and couldn’t find anything, but it seems like something that will have been discussed.

Essentially, what is the difference between Best Chessmen Ever and Dubrovnik Chessmen? They’re both NOJ?

If you want a NOJ product is the choice essentially Eastern Style BCE, Western Style BCE, or one of the Dubrovnik options?

And how do you choose which you want? Simply the style you like? Or are there other differences?

I have emailed (the Dubrovnik address) to be added to the wait list, so can probably ask these questions there whenever I get a reply, but any advice appreciate.

Many thanks!

Hi Craigodile,

Whereabouts in Aust are you? I am in Qld and have a Noj 1950 in walnut/maple that I’d be willing to part with…. Brought about a year ago

Remember that Noj is a company that makes and sells chess sets.

Of course you should buy from them what you like.

The Dubrovnik sets they make are from the originals in 1950 and in the 1960’s.

The Best Chessmen Ever sets were designed by Izmet who has his web site of the Best Chessmen Ever name. Yes, there are the East and West versions as well.
Noj does make other designs as well.

I bought and really like their GM Pavasovic set, for instance. Others like and buy their Tal set also.

What seems to be the most popular is their Dubrovnik models.

I own 3 of the Dubrovnik II sets, in Walnut, Red stained and Brown stained. I also own a Minceta set in Brown stain.

I also own a Best Chessmen Ever set, Eastern, Stage 2, with the stainless steel bases.

I also own the GM Pavasovic set in Walnut, which I also like very much.

Noj quality is second to none. Any set they make is of the best quality workmanship. If you like a set they offer and buy it you will not be disappointed.
Good luck.
