nomination for ugliest set of the year

I have to disagree. I actually don't mind it at all.. Yes, it's different but not everything can be your regular run of the mill chess sets. Chess is evolving with chess engines, hand held devices, smart boards etc, there's no reason chessmen designs can't either. Whilst it's not going to be appealing to everyone, I personally would buy one.

I can imagine this pattern might produce the same optical illusion as zebras stripes- making it difficult to distinguish between individual pieces when they're in close proximity.

For $220? What not buy a used set for $20, grab some paints and do it yourself. Then you could spend the $200 you saved on something constructive, like a nice new chess board. Hey, that gives me an idea!

I'd be afraid to play with this set for fear of acid flashbacks! Or in my case, flash-forwards.

I suppose it comes down to personal preference, I prefer more contemporary based items compared to classical.

If you're going to steal for a great artist, the least you can do is give him credit for the design.
