Hey my Fide WCC plastic pieces just arrived .....and the set is pretty similar in size to the Dgt Centaur plastic pieces. So I put a few on the Centaur to see how they look.... and they work. WITHOUT modification.
Without requiring a metal disc or foil on the bottom. I don’t know why. They must have metal under their felt somehow.

Scratch that. Just the white pieces work. Weird.

I just ordered a Centaur.  It will be here next Tuesday.  I have a set of chess pieces I made and weighted them by drilling holes in the bottom and filling the holes with lead.  I am anxious to see if those pieces work on the Centaur with the lead, without modifications.  We shall see.

I tried some of the modifications mentioned on other threads here, by purchasing the metal stickers and putting them on the bottom.  That works, but it was expensive if I was going to try it on other sets.  I wanted to put metal stickers on some larger plastic bases so the felt would be the primary surface touching the Centaur.

I ended up buying a $5 roll of metal HVAC tape and using a dime for a model.  I drew circles on the backing and cut them out while listening to conference calls for work.  I've tried several different plastic sets, and every one works fine!

That's good to know.  I ordered some of those 1" aluminum stickers but hopefully the lead in the pieces will work instead.  I also have a method in my head of printing out paper squares that look like wood and pasting those to the Centaur squares to simulate wood squares.  If I print out 4 squares of 16 squares it should be easier to attach to the board.  Don't tell anyone but one of the big reasons I am getting the Centaur is so I can experiment with some of my ideas to modify it.  happy.png
