I own 4 sets sold by Carl and his company. About a year ago, or a bit less, we were having a discussion on this forum about this company and how some of the sets looked identical to some sold by The House of Staunton. Carl told us that it is true because he and The House of Staunton use some of the same manufacturers and buy, wholesale, the same sets offered to them.
Of course, some sets are unique to each company.
Now, I am here to tell you that The Official Staunton Company has very nice sets at quite reasonable prices. I bought the Piatigorsky set which was the first of this model reproduction to come out in the last year. It is extremely well done and the set plays very well. At the sale the price for this set is now down to just under 280 British Pounds. Now that's a great price for a great set.
I also own the Broadbent set which, on sale is now just under 140 GBP. In fact I plan on using this set tomorrow evening at our club's Monday evening, rated tournament at G/90, d/5. The Broadbent is really a very nice set at a very reasonable price.
So, if you have been thinking about a set from this company, now is the time to buy at 30% off.
Oh yes, I want to remind some of you scurrilous sorts that I am not paid by any company for saying what I think on this forum or anywhere else.
Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately, much of the savings is eaten by the shipping costs to the US. In my case shipping the Piatigorsky set will cost me GBP30. Yikes!
I am not paid in any way by any Chess equipment company and all things I post here are my personal opinion.
The Official Staunton Company is having a January Sale with 30% off.
All you need do is use the code, "JAN30" to receive the discount.
