Old chess board with drawer

I'm wondering if older members of the forum have any memories of something like this board with a storage drawer?  It came from northern California and has a school house/woodshop feel to it.  I was thinking it might have been used in scholastic chess programs or in a summer camp.  My brother who's a woodworker thinks it could have been mass produced but it also has marks of being homemade.  The pull for the drawer is cut very unevenly.  It's perfect for a studio apartment and can be moved around with a position on it unlike my vinyl boards.  I'm planning to make another one along the same lines to house another plastic set.  Thanks.nullnullnull

Nice piece.

Homemade.  The frame is butt-jointed and reinforced with screws which are exposed and countersunk too deeply (and maybe unequally, hard to see).  The top looks very well done, and that's not easy! If you haven't made one before, it's completely do-able, but can be fussy. Youmight take a look at this 7 part video series

I know Drueke made one with a rounded swing out drawer circa late '60s. Bill is re-doing a lot lately perhaps another re-issue is in order wink.png .  https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Drueke-Model-133-Chess-Board-Pivot-Drawers-Storage/183141804465?hash=item2aa41a29b1:g:vmcAAOSwTmJas8~B

I was rummaging through an old container today and found what I believe to be a Drueke Players Choice Tournament Chessboard with simulated wood pieces. I’m not sure if that’s which one yours is but the craftsmanship is incredibly similar. Please let me know if you have any other information on these boards!?!?! I would love to know if mine is rare or just a home made add on to a nice board.
