Plastic board 55 mm with “Fischer’s” colors

A friend from Brazil (chess teacher and chess enthusiast) is making a nice 55 mm printed polypropylene chess board.

He developed this beige/green board inspired by a Bobby Fischer’s tale.

According to the story, the former world champion was suffering from severe headaches after too many hours of analysis and study OTB. A Doctor was consulted and diagnosed that the high contrast between the black/white colors of the vinyl board could be the cause. So he suggested Fischer to use this “easy on the eyes” colors in the chess board and the illness disappeared. I really don’t know if it is a true story or not, but it is kind of interesting. I bought a couple of boards from him to help and support his product developments, his passion for chess history and his patience to teach kids. I also acquired a custom weighted Jaehrig plastic set for my nephews. He also has boards with 60mm squares.

I like the colors. The light squares are a bit more tan than a standard vinyl roll up board. My only suggestion would be to make the border the same color. Where are they available for sale?

They are available directly with Prof Andre. The contact is in the youtube video. I believe you can whatsapp him. Add + 55 for Brazil and use the cell phone he shares in his video.
Nice idea for the borders, by the way.

I'd love a roll-up vinyl board like this!

Very interesting, I didn't know the Bobby Fischer story or that those colors were referred to as Fischer colors. However I was aware that green is used because of how easy it is on the eyes and its high contrast.

Relating particularly to the board's square color.  Obviously you want to be able to visually distinguish between the dark and the light squares, but also between the squares and the dark and light pieces.  For example the worst possible situation in this regard is to have the dark pieces be exactly the same color (including hue, and color saturation) as the dark squares.  For example black on black.  The light squares and pieces tend to be more forgiving in this respect (e.g.,  white on white).

In terms of being easy on the eyes, the blue-green color complex seems to work best, especially if the colors are pastel (i.e., less color saturation).

Here are examples of what I would prefer in regards to all of these considerations.....light (pastel) blue for the dark squares.  The squares and pieces contrast well with each other, and the color scheme of the boards is very "easy" on the eyes...

In regards to an earlier comment, I believe it would be preferable for the border to the the same or a very similar color to the either the light or the dark squares of the board.  That is, the border should be reasonably unobtrusive, in color and contrast, relative to the playing field colors.
