That is not a German Knight. It looks more than a plastic version of Rejkavik 1972 or HOS Legend. I saw a plastic German Knight online retailer here in the Philippines.

He's comparing the bases to the DGT set.

I just got an email stating that my set is on its way to me. I will give an update review of the plastic German Knight set.

I was browsing through The Chess Store's website. I came across a plastic set that made me do a double take. A plastic version of the common German Knight set?! I was like wow they finally got this set in plastic form. Wonder why it took so long for this to happen. I ordered the Black and Aged Ivory version. They also have a simulated wood version at about $40.

The simulated wood version does look gorgeous, but the "paper felt" bottoms are a total turnoff. For $40 you should be getting real felt.

So, did you like it? What's your verdict?

@JLA8128 Man sorry for the delay. Just been busy. I really like them. The King's finial has an unfinished look to it. Like it isn't cut down to give a cross finial look. It's like a cylinder with a couple of rings. The whole set looks like the plastic DGT set with the exception of the King, Queen, Bishop's finial, Knight, and missing the DGT logo on the tops of the Rooks. Other than the Pawn's base being a bit too narrow. Same issue with the Pawn's base on the DGT plastic set. The set is truly an awesome club style set that has more style than the plain Jane Basic Club set. It's like the DGT plastic set and the German Knight set got together to make a baby. This would be what it would look like. For $25 it's definitely worth having a more robust looking club set. The weight is nice and a 1/2 pound heavier than the weighted Basic Club set.

How are the "felt paper base pads"? As I said in my original post, that's a negative feature in my book.

@JLA8128 Yes they do have felt paper bottoms but they are the best quality felt paper bottoms I have seen. However a trip to the hobby store to get felt and glue is always an upgraded opinion. I personally don't feel the need to do it until they are getting worn out.

Thanks. Would you mind posting a few pics with different angle views that show thickness, etc.?

I will do a family photo in comparison to the DGT set.

Full set of the German Knight Plastic set. It looks good on a full print Mahogany vinyl board.

Thanks. I looks nice. I think I actually have that vinyl board! I was also interested in a close-up of the base pads from the side to show the thickness and quality. Hard to tell from the pics. To compare with these pretty thin felt pads on the World Chess Starter set:

I like that they are a dark hunter green color for the felt paper.
Thanks! So, they might be a little thicker than is typical, and yes, the green is nice.

Has anyone purchased the wood grain version?

If so, thoughts? These look *really* nice to my eyes.

Even though I don't own the wood grain version. I would recommend getting it. Since I do own the aged Ivory & Black. The only thing that is different is the color & finish. I say go and get you a set.

Here is the plastic DGT set. Like I said the bases look identical to me.
