Play Computer (Offline) Chess.com

Quick question. I noticed that one can “Play Computer” on the Chess.com app even when in flight mode which means the engine is part of the app.

I have noticed the same thing when one chooses Play Computer on the website and then disconnects from the internet meaning the engine is part of that particular web coding.

I’m not a webmaster not app coder so I was wondering what size (in Mbs) is the engine, what is its name (if it has one) and where else it has been used both in terms of software and hardware.

Thanks.

I think you are mistaken.

Flight mode just means that cell phone data and calling are off. WiFi may still be available.

No, I checked that - all off. The Chess.con app even said I was offline but I was still able to “play the computer”. That is different to “Play the machine”. As for the computer, it is Lan only and I unplugged it.

I tried saving the page thinking I could use the engine with the page without having to connect first but it didn’t work. It only works if one loads the page “play the computer” the I disconnect and play the game. Perhaps I need to try different browsers.

I'm interested in this too. It's perfectly clear that there's an engine somewhere in the javascript that arrived when the web page loaded. Even when we're online, it's unlikely chess.com would be running an instance of stockfish on its own servers, for every user currently playing against a bot or going through a game review.
