The set is really nice Mike.! Sometimes simple sets turn out to be awesome like this one. Please post Face On Knight pics if you can. I might have to pick up one for my nephew as a Christmas present.

That's a really nice set. I've seen the expression "New Staunton" used elsewhere but I'm not clear what it means.
Edit: I might order one of these. I haven't seen such a handsome set at that price point.

You won't be disappointed. I meant "New Staunton" to mean unused, brand new, just bought.

WOW free shipping globally? Thanks for the advice, seems to be a great site! Unfortunately I don't have any money otherwise I would have bought one :(

This isn't as nice as the CB set but here's my HOS Classic 3.75 inch. It's neither new nor unused but it still looks like it did when I bought it. It's $99.

Crappov. A very nice set. Pieces look great. Especially like the Knights and Bishops. You can't go wrong with this set for under $100.

Thanks. I think it's a decent value.
I should point out that some of the info at the HOS site about this set is incorrect. Their copy states that "it features a 3.75" King with a 1.5" diameter base." However, under "specifications," shown on the same page, they give a base diameter of 1.75 inches. It is neither - when I measure the base, I get right at 1.6 inches.

I just found this nice little staunton set for about 80 dollars recently. Apparently it's sold through HOS, but I found it on a third party site that contracts out HOS for their piece sales.
For the price, it's really quite the nice looking set.

Thanks for your picture. Your set looks similar to Crapov's. Is yours 3.75 or 4" King? Good price for $8o.

Thanks Mike.! Looks OK to me. A nice simple design. Looks like the Knights are indestructable. It kind of reminds me of the W.T. Pinney set sold under the Liberty series set by HOS . Going to order a set shortly.

Mike, I agree...when I saw your set on the CB website I thought it should be an instant classic and ordered one at the same time as their 1849 Jaques reissue...so I'll have to wait a little longer to get my hands on them. Sigh! 😄

Hi Frank. Yes, the Knights are almost indestructible as is the set. The perfect set for the rigors of blitz chess. Yes, it does remind me of the W.T. Pinney set because of its ruggedness. Are you going to order the black or shesham set?

Hi John:
I can't tell you enough how I love this set. My chess buddies who I meet with for chess are all buying this set. Just curious, did you buy the black or sheesham set? Regarding the 1849 set, I wonder why its taking CB so long to get these sets shipped?

@GKMike, I was unaware that CB offered these pieces in Sheesham also until I read your post. So I just ordered a second set in Sheesham. They should probably arrive at the same time as the 1849 and the Boxwood/black stained Boxwood pieces. As far as the delay in shipping the 1849'ers...I have speculations as to why, but since they are just that, I'll keep them to myself. 😜

Will probably order the black pieces like your set.

I was thinking the exact same thing.
I've been considering ordering the Liberty set for day to day use, including blitz. But this set looks even better and appears perfect for blitz. I see nothing dainty or pointy, just a handsome, rugged design.
This forum is dedicated to Staunton Chess Sets that you recently bought or like. Sets must cost under $100. Your pictures and all pertinent information are appreciated in that it may help collectors and tournament players alike who are looking for a nice moderately priced set. Below are some pictures of a really nice Unique Staunton Set I recently purchased from ChessBazaar. The King measures 3.8" in height with a diameter base of 1.75". The set is heavily weighted. I ilke the simplistic designed pieces coupled with their nice sleek wide bases. I especially like the Rook,Knight and Bishop designs. And the double collar pieces are extremely pleasing. The set is made of boxwood with the dark pieces stained in black. CB also offers the set in golden rosewood AKA sheeshamwood. Either set is fantastically priced at $71.99 with free shipping. http://www.chessbazaar.com/the-staunton-series-weighted-chess-pieces-in-dyed-wood-box-wood-3-8-king.html. Also a great set for Blitz play. Looking forward to seeing your sets and recomendations.

endations.
