Somewhere I have one similar to this one that I bought back in the 1980's.

8" Drueke Gift Magnetic Chess Set - Chess Set - Chess-House

chessmaster_diamond

Bought an inexpensive travel set from Amazon to take with me on a trip to England.

Didn't go for the smallest or cheapest version though. 12" board, 2.6" kings, decent magnets and overall quality. Checkers chips included, no extra queens.

Nice, I have a smaller version that appears to be made by the same company.

he German drugstore Rossmann currently hast travelling games for 7.99, and I couldn't resist and bought chess and backgammon.

The boards don't stay quite flat yet, but somehow the games make a good mood happy.png

And I actually bought them because the summery colors are such a nice diversion from the standard colors and shapes <3

Still, looks like a good value.

A no magnetic set with a cloth mat and wooden pieces. On a tournament sized board for comparision.

GH_1977

Red and white chess pieces look like eye candy

TundraMike

Red and white plastic pieces were always my favorite too. Just something magical about them.

Are these pegged sets meant for blind people. What is the purpose of pegging a set rather than making it magnetic in nature

mjeman

Pegged sets pre-date small, strong rare earth magnets.

TundraMike

My Son got a beauty today. One of the rarest Drueke travel sets I ever did see. In mint condition. They made this set like a fine piece of furniture. I can't get over it. Not easy to find.

TundraMike

And the pieces are weighted above which is amazing.

Yes, a great find. Thanks for posting and well done to your son!

Better have a good alarm system.wink

BrownishGerbil

2 1/8" magnetic pieces on a 10" board (didn't buy them together)

BrownishGerbil

They did yes, but only just strong enough to fight a mild summer breeze 🙄

BrownishGerbil

No idea of the provenance, I actually picked them up together with these 2 in plastic, which seem to be german in origin.

Edit: second one is very similar to Swiss HUK pieces apparently.
