Thanks for the compliment. I meet once a week with my chess buddies for some chess. Each week we play with a diffrent set in my collection. So, this set is rotated with my other sets. So I probably play with it twice a year. Yes, I get great enjoyment handling these pieces during a game.

Very nice set. I like the bishops in particular. May just be my imagination but the bishop heads look slightly different(rounder perhaps, or maybe a little bit elongated?) I can't put my finger on it but I like them :) Love that rich brown stain as well. Just a really nice well used(but taken care of) set.

Beautiful set ! I hope y'all arent playing blitz with them ?!
Heavens no!! No Blitz Just the slower stuff

GNM, A real beauty. Love that patina, and the tall slender shape of the pieces. What's the diameter of the king, and what size board are you using?

Hi Lou:
Kings have 1.6" dimeter base. The set looks good on the 2.25" square boards we've been using.

That set is really cool. You should post some of your other sets too.
Thanks. Yes, Im will post more pictures of my vintage sets on this tread.

Thanks. I agree, the bishops are quite appealing.
It seems that all we see in these forums is the new stuff. Please post your vintage Staunton sets with comments and stories about their acquisition. Below is a fascinating set I purchased on Ebay around 15 years ago. Kings measure 4" in height. I have seen many vintage sets including the vintage Jaques, BCC, Ayres, etc, but have never seen a set like mine. My guess its probably from the 1950s. Niotice the beautiful orange patina of the light color pieces. I don't think they are made of boxwood. Black pieces are stained. Opinions and comments welcome along with pitures of your vintage Staunton sets.
