Yeah, that's a beauty! I can almost see Steinitz and Zuckertort sitting across the table locking horns.

Circa 1890s Scottish Set. Beautiful finely turned pieces. Sad that the Knights were so crudely carved

Pretty cool set Mike with great color and love those flat looking wide bases of the good ol days, especially that pawn. That rook is about as stout as can be also and certainly would scare any queen in its wake ! I agree that the knights could be a bit better and a little taller, but still appreciate their originality and vintage of the hand carved heads.

Thanks D2-D8, Agreed those flat wide bases are lovely, and the stout rook making its presence known!

Thanks. Looks like a very nice large Lardy. Too bad it doesn't ship to Canada. BTW, I have a Lardy w/ slightly different sized queens, so the King size variance in your set is not unheard of...

Just came from the airport, I went to pick up my cousin that came from the US. With a 3" Golden Castle and a couple of Drueke chessboards (1.5" and 2.25") :-)
I took a few quick shots of the set on the little Drueke, sorry about the light:
Wow!

That's a lovely set... it looks to be in mint condition. I've been looking for a Golden Castle set for years. I missed one on Ebay a couple of months ago, but at least it went to one of the forum members here. Enjoy it!
Robert, I just missed on one about a month ago. Oy!

Chuck, it might have been the same one. Our Canadian friend won it, I believe.
LOL. I recall that the set I bid on went for a little over $200, but my recollection is that Frank was kvelling about his acquisition before this other one went to market, and that his set was larger than the one I bid on. It didn't show up in a Craftsman search because the word Craftsman appeared nowhere in the Ebay posting.

@cgrau. I think this is the set you are talking about. I found the chess set on eBay by chance, when I saw it I called my cousin to place a bid and I waited for him to come on vacation to bring it to me.
LOL, well, congratulations! The set has found a good home and an owner who will appreciate its beauty and its history!
Beautiful set Frank!! Keep those pictures coming of your fabulous collection.
