Promotion

Hello everyone I have a question. First I think that this is the wrong place to ask but it seems as if the over the board forums have been removed. Sometimes I play over the board and my question is how does one go about promoting a piece in over the board?

Get a pawn to the other side of the board.

Well yes I know that but do you guys like carry around extra pieces or do you just remember what pawn made it to the other side?

most sets come with 1 extra queen. by the time promotion happens there are some pieces captured for re-use.

Ok that makes sense.

If you don't have an extra Queen you can take a captured Rook and place it upside down to represent your second Queen.
