For your level, buy the PC CD by Convekta, Chess Combinations Encyclopedia. Put it on Test Mode and do at least 20 problems a day.

That CD looks good but I think he's looking for a book. Although I guess he could just print a couple pages whenever he's going somewhere.

CHESS: 5334 Problems, Combinations, and Games. By Laszlo Polgar. 306 mate in ones, 3,412 mate in twos, 744 mate in threes, 600 miniature games, 144 simple endgames, and 128 tournament game combinations, plus solutions, etc. It should last you more than a weekend.  C :

For calculation, I would recommend your try perhaps the chess tempo website or maybe ct art. If you want to work away at pattern recognition, then the chess tactics server might suit your needs better. Or if you're in between, you can always take a look at some chess books on http://www.squidoo.com/chess-reference.

I have The Chess Tactics Workbook

And Pandolfini's Chess Challenges 111 Winning Engames (very small book)

http://www.amazon.com/Pandolfinis-Chess-Challenges-Winning-Endgames/dp/0375722068/ref=sr_1_16?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1344576041&sr=1-16&keywords=pandolfini

I like them both. Check them out.

Instead of buying book, Use CT-Art Tactics.! OR if you really want a puzzlebook, i encourage you to buy Junn Nunn's book.

How about subscribe to Chess.com premium membership to have access to unlimited tactics on database of chess.com, it also has Chess Mentor, and Video Lesson.

Just a suggestion. :)

Back to the topic:

How about the Ultimate Chess Puzzle book (Gambit) I don't remember the author. John Nunn's 365 Chess puzzles is also interesting.

Conflagration_Planet

The book I mentioned has far more.
