How do you guys access from your laptop your chess engine running on your desktop machine? Is there a simple way to do this?

Uh what is so funny?
You can try any of the remote desktop programs (e.g. VNC, there's also one built into Windows, can't remember it's name, a quick search on my computer Win 8 Pro pops up "Remote Desktop Connection"). Note that VNC traffic isn't encrypted so run it over a VPN.
I'm thinking about updating my phone's analysis board app to remotely (and securely of course) connect to an engine running on my desktop and enable Stockfish infinite search depth; currently something like that would just kill the phone battery life if running locally on the phone.
I give this idea (if it is new) to public domain.
Currently, I access my desktop via VNC from my phone. Which the OP can too.

Sounds like you are asking for advice on how to cheat.
Not wanting to give advice on the subject but... wouldn't this be a simple matter of turning your gaze from one screen to another?
I run the chess engine on my laptop. Any remote desktop tools should work like RDP (builtin to windows), VNC (builtin to Mac) or various web based tools.
Use a search engine like Google on the terms "chessbase cloud chess engine''. The first couple of hits should address your question, or at least lead you to one option.

He does, doesn't he?
But to answer your question ccherng2, no, you aren't allowed to use a chess engine while playing. Sorry pal!
It's simple to connect stockfish running on linux machine, using putty tools.
Arena GUI has support for that. Other tools may need some tweaking, I've managed to connect PGN Spy to use remote engine with some patching.
This requires putty to be installed on client machine, and passwordless login on server machine.
I had to use "-load saved-session-name" switch with plink.exe, though. It also supports password login, but I haven't tried it.
Yes, there are ways to use remote control and connecting your mobile phone to dgt board.
Please provide thiese ways. You are a fraud and troll. No one should take what you write seriously.
DGT has also recetly made its plastic chess sets dgt enabled. The plastic sets are not only very elegant but also very durable. DGT plastic board is also available on the market now. It is cheaper than the wood version but equally beautiful.
Wow, this guy is really sloppy with the facts.
DGT makes ONE set that is electronically enabled, certainly not more than that. And looking at that set, most everyone that knows chess sets would not call that design, elegant.
And yes, we have known for awhile now that DGT has a plastic electronic board that is less expensive than the wood one.
It is beginning to look like Stauntonmaster is being a boot licker of DGT.
The DGT plastic sets meant for dgt board are special design, heavy, hard, durable and very well-balanced. It is great joy and pleasure to play with them. The plastic set on plastic dgt board is absolutely amazing. I thank DGT desingers and engineers once again for their quality chess sets and boards.
There is no evidence that this Stauntonmaster has ever played on one of these boards and sets or owns one. I caution people reading this thread to take this into consideration.
I understand your question, also looking at the same, basically how to create an UCI engine on the cloud.
On the spur of the moment what I can think of is to install Google drive, get the files on your drive and just load them on the app you are going to use like Scid.
But that would just use a basic Google machine and not our own desktop.
You have chessify and chessbase that offers that service subscription base.
During this night I created a Google vm from Google cloud 4 cpus 16 ram running windows server it will cost roughly 14 cents per hour. Running latest stockfish it seems faster than my local machine (Ryzen 5 32gb ram) not by a lot. I guess if I create an instance with better hardware like 16 cpus it will increase the power substancially, but the cost would also be very big for a non professional. If you find out how to create the UCI engine running from local machine let us know
