How do you store these's fine Chessman / Queen in the real Chess box ? being prone to rubbing & being knocked around when moving .
Was looking into making a chess box tray for some of my old Antique sets where the box is cramped .

I have a spare original (modern) Jaques solid mahogany casket that fits 4.4inch pieces if anyone's interested:
Greetings
we have a special offer for the best Jaques reproduction on the market at only $499 with free shipping
I do wonder about this. StauntonCastle hasn't been around for long, but they are offering the 3,5 inch king Jacques repro that I have here: https://www.stauntoncastle.com/collections/luxury-chess-pieces/products/walter-grimshawn-reproduction-circa-1854-staunton-chessmen.
I bought those pieces from Official Staunton one or two years ago however. To make matters weirder, Official Staunton no longer sells these pieces. I think a lot happened behind the scenes here..
Dear Maik1988
we have been around since 1985 and we have supplied almost all the famous chess resellers in USA and UK, including Official Staunton, whom we used to supply until recently. Since they no longer procure from us as they have their own manufacturing, we are free to sell our wares open market.
thanks Mandeep

I had my eye on that Walter Grimshawn set myself from SC but I also like the Cooke 3.5" king offering from OS which is only $5 more when comparing overall total pricing and the OS antiquing is a bit more robust and darker in color than SC's. I could go with either one since the pricing is really negligible. I need a 3.5" Jaques club reproduction for my inventory and these two are running neck and neck although I'm leaning towards OS but SC has this Grimshawn and other sets that have really peaked my interests as well. The kings and bishops differ in their heads thickness and slimmer and sharper profiles but both are fine reproductions. On my wish list for sure. There may be interaction behind the scenes but only they would know.
@ QtoQ: The Grimshaw (sp?) set I got from OS, and the replacement they sent me, had major issues with the boxwood. That might have just been a bad batch they had gotten, so perhaps the problem is fixed now. It is a very nice set to play with, stable and heavy. Design-wise it's my favourite staunton pattern set.
The Cooke sets from OS and SC look like fine repros. I don't like the knights personally on those sets, but they do have that quality look to them.

Now that you mention that particular comparison aspect of the knights that does tend to make me lean towards the SC Grimshawn set but I sure did wish that they had darkened their antiquing process a bit more, it seems a bit light from the photos but a customer would never know for sure until the set is actually in one's hand. The OS Cooke reproduction knight has a thicker neckline in relation to the SC knight's neck which features a much slender, more aesthetically pleasing appearance. This helps in my future decision making. Much appreciated on your view on these aspects of the set.

@Minarima, is that still for sale?

After seeing what these box new are going for .
Would be cheaper to make your own chess trays for a box .
Some recent photos of my 1855 Jaques set on a late 19th century chess board:
What I like most about this set is that the Jaques label still has the resellers sticker on it that includes the address where this set was originally purchased. 42 Cornhill street, London is still a retail store today:
Very nice! One day I'll have an original also, but until then the repro will have to do. How big is that set, and the board? Love the old framed boards and they really complete the old sets. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Horace. The kings are 3.5 inches tall, and the board has 2 inch squares, and is 18 inches square in total including the frame.
Beautiful, patina (especially in knights). Set and board complement each other gorgeously as well. Are those knights considered the drop jawed knights?
I mean exactly this set, but smaller:
You think we can still get Carl on it?
