That's fairly convincing GM4-U. Please keep posting images of the sets you're making, I expect to see them being offered as the real thing in auctions soon by unscrupulous sellers and it's good to know what the reproductions looks like.

Thanks Lighthouse, I have the Alan Fersht book so I've seen those. There is, of course, significant variation on each Knight in the pictures from set to set, and even within sets. I'm not sure I'd be able to pick a real Jaques set from one of these repros anymore, just from looking at pictures on ebay. The King(s) are marked on the real sets of course, so unscrupulous sellers would still need to replicate the Jaques stamps on the King(s).

More of a bump than anything else, this is my newest addition, the OS 1849 Antique Lacquer 4.4 in LE set.  Good morning sunshine.

@Horace mind posting more pics and giving info on board used for pics?

Horace

I'll see what I can do later today... I just grabbed that shot this morning when the sunshine came in and I saw it while going for more coffee.  The board is a knockoff Drueke clone, 2 1/4" squares.

Very classy and fine looking set.  Has the WOW FACTOR.

Hi,

As (small) collector of antique pieces, as a man who, most of time, only Love old stuff...

Here is, to my eyes, a magnificent reproduction of a chess game I dream (*) whose price could be of +/- 12,000£.

No place in my home/ No money in my bank.

But how let my dream go away...

Carl, for selling so fantastic chess men; I hate you! happy.png happy.png happy.png

FYI-There is a 35% "Royal Discount" going on right at this moment for the https://www.officialstaunton.com/products/cooke-morphy-1849-4-4-king-edition-dark-antique-natural-ebony set. The lowest I've seen to date if anyone is interested but I think only for the Royal Wedding commencement day. It's a very good deal I wish I had the means of obtaining the set myself.

There's an 1849 Jaques for sale here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Early-JAQUES-Staunton-chess-Set-1849/232763141648?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

Looks to be nicely restored, no casket though. Bidding has reached £2000 as I write  this, too rich for me

Hi,

These are really beautiful pieces, wait until the end ...

The price should go to £ 10,000 / £ 12,000, under this price the buyer can be considered very very very lucky.

PS: you know what, despite knowing that I will never be able to offer myself the beautiful but so expensive chess pieces of my dreams (*) , I am happy!
ok, it's true that I'm in red on my bank account, but I'm so happy with my last purchase...

This is the first time that, following the purchase of a recent chess game, I am excited as if I have bought a rare ancient chess set... believe me, i think i know appreciate a beautiful chess set, I am lucky enough to own few sumptuous (to my eyes) and very very rare chess set in my collection ...

The pieces look really older... why not happy.png

MySeTH

here is a picture of "real" Staunton chessmen, and a knight from Official Staunton 1849 ,

compare yourself...

as i say and think: the most accurate reproduction of a Staunton knight

nullnull

MySeTH

...and if i may, here is my think, do not forget that Staunton chessmen is the "idea" of a shape, a "spirit" of a perfect chess piece, there is not 1 model for Staunton chessmen, but the idea to be closer of perfection/proportion for an "ultimate" chess piece ...

but it is just my way of thinking happy.png

MySeTH

you are welcome happy.png
