Restoration of J Jaques chess set

Hello

This is my first post.

Have recently acquired a st george pattern chess set in boxwood and ivory made by J Jaques of London.

There are several damaged pieces and two pieces (pawns) with weights missing.

The two most damaged pieces have large chips in them (black pawn and king)

Can anyone recommend someone who could restore these.  I have read around the forums and a number of people are receommending a person called Alan Dewey.  His website has gone and I can find no email for him.  I would post some pictures but the insert picture is missing on this box.

Any advice greatfully received

Many thanks for reading

I send my work to Alan.  You can reach Alan through his Facebook page: www.facebook.com/bobbinboy

or bobbinboymail@gmail.com.

Ron Fromkin in Florida is seen as the current top restorer, all the top collectors use him.

Really?...he is really the only one about now, Alan seems to have stopped.

You should have sent it back, he would have fixed it up, his carving is superb, Ive seen Knights he’s done, excellent.

Hello

Thanks for replies, I already have a quote from Ron, although a bit nervous about sending these to him after reading the above.  I am waiting for a quote from a company called Farcroft who do high end restoration including chess sets.  Although I suspect the price will be quite high.  I will post back on here when they get back to me.

When you send you work to Ron explain exactly what you expect, get images once done before he sends it back, if not happy ask to get it redone, talk to him about this arrangement, he can take criticism and will gladly fix anything your not happy with, it also makes him pull out his best work from the start... he is good..

I just contacted Alan Dewey.  He says that they are having some issues with their website, but he and Melissa are still hard at work.  I would recommend reaching out to Alan if you need some restoration work to be done: bobbinboymail@gmail.com.

Could you post some pictures of the damaged pieces here please?

I have used Ron for several chess sets now. He has been amazing and is a true gentleman. I strongly recommend him.

I have a vintage Chavet pieces coming in this week. One of the black rook's top ( I don't know how that is called) is chipped. I want to have it restored, but I'm wondering since it's from around 1970 and has developed patina and all, if that's possible to have it restored with preservation of the patina? Anyone who has have it done before?

Well given Ron has matched the patina on my 1862 Jaques set I would think he could easily do the same on a 1970s set.
