Actually, I do not owe you or anyone else anything.

When it comes to Noj, there is no middleman.
I have bought identical designed sets from CB and HoS.  And I can easily tell the quality difference.  And so have others that do not collect sets or did not know which set was the pricier one or not.

So, I am sorry for you because you are being delusional about me being delusional or not.

Good luck to you and your Chess purchases and play.

And why should anyone believe you are qualified to attest to superiority of chess pieces sold by your favorite vendor? You do owe a proof or otherwise, any clueless person on Internet will make claims of expertise.

As per NOJ, I wouldn't personally trust a manufacturer who has the audacity to post some blurry pictures on their website. Besides, their piece designs best appeal to the taste of 4 year old kids, lol. Yet, they are priced at 1000 euros; enough said.

Eyechess

Uhmm, exactly how would one provide the proof you demand?

And, my favorite vendor is Raphael and his Chess House.  I did not mention him at all until now.

In all reality there are not that many Chess vendors out there anyway.
I have bought sets from them all and am satisfied with the products from each.

Once again, there are some places that offer products that are of a higher quality.  And they usually cost more than the lower priced category places.

Do you own any wood Chess sets?  What sets do you own?

I have suggested that people buy sets from Chess Bazaar and Royal Chess Mall.  I have also recommended Staunton Castle, Your Move Chess and Games/Chessusa.com, The Chess House, Wholesale Chess, The Rochester Chess Center, The House of Staunton, Noj, Official Staunton and a few others in the past.

When I recommend a vendor it is usually for a specific set or item.  The House of Chess makes and sells a set they call Yugo/Zagreb.  That is a nice set and in the lower price range, for instance.

Currently, The House of Staunton has a wood Drueke reproduction set that is very nice, though a bit pricey.

I just received a wood Ultimate set in Anjanwood from The Chess House.  With a coupon this 4.1 lb set cost a bit over $120.

Tonight I plan on taking pictures and then reviewing that HoS Wood Drueke reproduction, their second version.  And then next week, if I can, I will take pictures of The Chess House wood Ultimate set in Anjanwood with a review on this forum to follow.

I am an optometrist and receive no income or free product from Chess vendors.  I always, repeat always, look for a discount on any set I buy, no matter the vendor.  But I still pay for the sets with my own money.  My wife might say it’s her money, but that’s another discussion.

Like many on this forum, over the last 5+ years that I have been coming here, I post pictures and give my personal opinion on Chess stuff.

You are free to agree or disagree with me.  I really don’t care.

I bought my Imperial Collector chess set for 175 $ from Chessbazzar. It is an awesome set, both in terms of design and quality. This very same set cost 900 $ at HOS. That is just insane.

Unfortunately, that is very most likely not the very same set. But that’s a nice try.

I am sure the set you got from CB is nice.

"but nice try". Everyone is out to get you, now? I promise the HOS set isn't $725 nicer. I just got the Zagreb from RCM for $110 instead of $419 from HOS. But yeah, for the extra $209 you get a lighter set, but with choice of finial for the king. An argument that they are soooo nice they are worth over twice the price... won't work on me, at least.

You two socialists should get along just fine. You both project and have closed minds.

Calling people socialists is a perfect way to appear trivial and given to distraction.

I refuted that the 2 sets were identical from the different companies.

Also note that I have and will continue to discuss specific sets from specific companies.

House of Staunton sells a lot of different sets.  You will note that I only write positively about a few of them, and specifically not their Zagreb 59 set.  I would never suggest buying that from them.

Look specifically at the more recent Frank Camaratta designed and produced sets.  There you will find quality for the price that others can not duplicate.

And don’t overlook what I wrote about HoS wood Drueke Players set in Rosewood, and it’s the second version.  That set has exceptional quality for under $150.  And that set is better than other tries by other companies.

Also, you wrote about a $725 difference in price for a Chess set.  Heck, I have never paid even close to $725 for a Chess set let alone pay a higher price for a set that was this much more than another set.  That’s a nice try on your part to exaggerate a price difference though.

Please, can you guys take your argument offline?

Eye, you cannot talk to these guys. I see it all of the time. They have never experienced buying a top quality set. I have dealt with Frank for a couple of years and never paid retail price. His sets are top quality next to NoJ.

Yeah, of course you are right.

Of course it's the same set from two different companies, the only difference being that the HOS set is 4". I was only comparing the prices, though.  HOS prices are outrageously high compared to their competitor's prices.  The value for money you get from HOS is, in my humble opinion, not worth the extra cash.

Then I suggest you not buy the HoS set.

Show us some pictures of the set you did get.

I already did.

Well you do get a nice wooden pen and really cool box with an NOJ set.....Yuk.-happy.png

magictwanger

That's really nice.I wish sets came with  a box similar to the one as shown....I hate having to spend extra cash on a decent box/coffer,after buying another chess set, which I don't need anyway....but...cannot resist getting.

I have my eye on the C.B. repro of the Ceska Klubuvska set right now.Excuse my spelling,if not correct.....That set just does something to me.

magictwanger

YUK! It was only a matter of time before someone came up with something like that......Kinda' funny actually, but it's not original. I've seen better on other forums.Definitely gave me a good laugh.

As a matter of fact, nobody has proven the chess pieces sold by HOS are better built than those sold by CB or RCM. This is a presumption based on two possible reasoning: some may assume just because they are more expensive, they must be better. This argument is a fallacy. The second argument is that because some random guys on Internet are telling us so, we should trust their judgement and follow their belief. Some of these guys (notably Haverumwilltravel) go to the extent of insulting those who don't trust their assessments. I for one, don't trust these guys and invite the audience here to never trust these guys either: don't let a random guy on Internet (such as Haverumwilltravel) try to manipulate you into paying say $1000 for a set of chess pieces that can be found elsewhere for as low as $250-$300.

Do not let them fool you.

You are the troll here. Thus thread was about RCM shop and pieces bought from them. You tried to hijack the thread and divert the discussion into promoting your favorite shop instead. You act and behave like a fraud.

No one is trying to fool anyone else.

You are wrong.  It is possible and there are people that can tell the difference in quality build between different sets.
