Does anyone know what the latest version of Rybka is?

The latest version is Rybka 3 but it is not that simple.

There are many versions of Rybka 3 and their site does a poor job sorting all the optional versions available.

First, the is both the single and dual processor versions. The dual will work on a single processor machine. If you are considering purchasing a new computer it certainly will have a dual process so buy the dual processor Rybka.

A demo version of Rybka with the Aquarium interface is available.

Chessbase.com has many Rybka instructions by Steve Lopex in the Workshop section.

Note that Rybka does not come with a user interface. Rybka is the chess engine without a user interface.  Many interfaces will work with it. I recommend Aquarium, Rybka's companion interface. The Rybka/Aquarium combination is available.

Fritz is being left in the dust. Even Chessbase is promoting Rybka. Not just because Rybka is so strong but the many features Aquariun offers, one or two being astounding. Chessbase offers its version of Rybka for use with Chessbase.

Rybka4? There is much discussion about if and when there will be a version 4. Based on my readings it will be a long time before it is released.

An interface is the program that the engine runs in.  For instance, Winboard and Fritz and Arena are interfaces.  :)

Could you run rybka on fritz since that is an interface?

LOL yes, Rybka is run on Fritz all the time.  In fact, you can buy it with the Fritz interface. 

The only time you encounter a problem is with interface-specific engines, such as Fritz itself.  Most engines with an .exe at the end can run on any UCI (universal chess interface, such as Arena or Winboard).  However, if you purchase an engine with Fritz, for instance, the engine file will likely end with an .eng, meaning it only works with Fritz.  You can, however, run .exe engines IN Fritz.  It sounds complicated, but it really isn't.

Yes, I have Deep Rybka 3 with the Fritz (ChessBase) interface.

I have Fritz 11 and found Rybka 3 of no use. Was an additional chess engine that could play a good game with fritz 11. Let them play each other for 50 bucks no thanks.

 Really?  I have Rybka Aquarium and Fritz 11 and I believe Aquarium is a lot better.  It is much better at fairly analyzing complex opening positions.

Is aquarium free?

No. Rybka 2 is free, but it's just an engine. you would still need an interface to run it. there many free interfaces.
