It's worth a watch.

Looks a bit cheesy to me, from looking at the trailer.

A made for TV movie for the masses I would say, but I do prefer harder edged fair - any movie with the name 'Bobby Fischer' in the title should really be hard edged indeed.

Looks well made, has a lot of good reviews, so most likely enjoyable enough though.

An alright movie, but also kind of a letdown because Bobby Fischer wasn't actually in it.

it was a decent film though i had issue with the handing out of "master class points"

Yea "you are now in the eyes of your teacher, a grandmaster" - he was rated perhaps 1500 at that age.

Its one of those movies that youre hardly going to be like "that was amazing!" - but one that every chess enthusiast has to watch at least once.

>>On May 1949, Bobby and his sister Joan learned how to play the game with a Chess set given to them as a present.<<

I also turned 6 in 1949, lived in Brooklyn and had an older sister named Joan. Damn glad no one gave me a chess set then. Duncan yo-yos, baseball bubble gum packs, water pistols, comic books and street ball (stick, stoop and punch) were my primary interests at the time.

Just imagine, if he had never gotten this present, many of us...directly or indirectly...would probably not be wasting so much time, money and energy on chess. Shrug. Whether that would be good or bad...hard to say for sure.

Golf is another good way to waste time, money and energy...this I can also vouch for.

I personally thought the movie was great...with very good actors, and well producesd...it difinitely is worth the look...and is currently in my 1200 movie collection.

I remember a few boys who never came out to play. They were "holed up" in their apartment all day, every day, for one reason or another. This is not a good way to develop social skills. Thus it was for Bobby.

The movie was only just okay.  The book, however, was 100 times better.  You can find used paperback copies for just a few dollars on Amazon.
