My six year old daughter has fallen in love with Horde chess. Where can I buy silicone pawns to add to her set in order to enable this variant?

Give Raphael at Chesshouse a call. He sells individual pieces and silicone sets. Not sure if he sells individual silicone chess pieces, but he may be willing to work with you.

Horde Chess is a weird variant where white has 36 pawns and no pieces. Rules of chess pretty standard otherwise. Pawn promotion as usual. White wins by checkmating black; black wins by capturing all white's pawns/ pieces.

Chesshouse is basically sold out.

Basically, 30 pawns is too small an order for the Chinese supplier, and too large for everyone else!

I actually enjoy this variant. My nieces and nephews are of the age when dropping stuff is more common, so when choosing sets for durability, the Ultimates seemed a natural choice. But that's pricey and not ideal for everyone. I don't see any way around just ordering a bunch of (cheap) half-sets in white from a vendor.

Did you end up purchasing $9.50 silicone half sets from ChessHouse? Or did they sell just the pawns?

Both. I ended up getting a package including the pawns (sold individually at 30 cents each), several half sets, a four player chessboard, and a standard chessboard. The kids will go nuts!
