Beautiful sets. Never been a huge fan of the BCE type set but it's difficult to pick a favourite from the other 3. Maybe the Dubrovnik edges it if I could only choose one.
Some of my collection

Beautiful sets. Never been a huge fan of the BCE type set but it's difficult to pick a favourite from the other 3. Maybe the Dubrovnik edges it if I could only choose one.
Would be Dubrovnik , alot of Noj sets ?

@audioq Thanks. I couldn't choose just one either and thats why I have multiple sets . I think each of these are like works of art with their own story. The BCE is my most recent. I am not normally a fan of modern sets, however, it is a unique design and elegant in so many ways. Still very Staunton. It was hard to decide stage 1, 2 or 3... or between Western or Eastern. The stainless steel base with leather bottom gives it a nice detail, good feel and satisfying "thunk" sound unlike any wooden, plastic, stone or glass set. I am considering an Eastern stage 3... a departure from the simplicity of the stage 1 but also unique and interesting with a great pedigree.
@EBowie glad you and others can appreciate them. I had a Chess Bazaar set out as well... surprising how much more I enjoy these over the Chess Bazaar set.

@lighthouse @madmacsback Good eye . I don't think the pictures do them justice. The Pavasovic was my first Noj so I have a soft spot for it... dare I say it's my favourite.
For others that may not recognize them, from left to right they are: Best Chessmen Ever (Stage 1, Western), NOJ Dubrovnik 1950, NOJ 1962 Soviet Championship (Tal), NOJ GM Pavasovic.
I'm planning a short photo book of the 1962 Soviet Championship set.

For me, it comes down to the appearance of the Knights.
Each set has its pros and cons, so… not a fan of any of the sets.
I was going to vote for the "reddish" set, but its Queen is lacking.
Had it had a "white top," then that set would have won a vote from me.
Best,
Bob

@usaupzlbxbob Is it the red queen compared to other queens or when seeing it with the other red pieces? Maybe if I had better lighting or know how to take better photos? Or do you think there should be sharper distinctions against the king?

It's the "burgundy" pieces set. Bishop has a white wood top.
Damn! You live in Bermuda? Life must be good!
I am a "cheap" chess player, and not by choice. (But, really, the board and pieces are something to admire first glance, … … and then you have to win your games.)
I have delved into maybe buying "yet another chess set."
I play with plastic 3 3/4" Kings right now. (would much prefer a smaller set to see the whole board efficiently)
On a vinyl board.
Nonetheless, dreaming of owning beautiful wooden Staunton Repros is a great pastime. (And the Internet makes dreaming so much easier than when I was a child.)
… and this would mean $500 for the pieces, today's market prices. If you find a discount, good for you.
And then I'll drop a plastic Knight on the slate tile floor, the ear gets a good nick, and I feel nothing more than, "That's Life."

@usapzlbxbob I lived in Bermuda for 6 years but now I live between Virginia, Toronto and Hungary. My primary set is a vinyl board with plastic pieces rolled up in a carrying case. I travel everywhere with it (but a rook broke when teaching in Transylvania and I haven't gotten around to replace it yet either).
@amazemove @1g31-0 Thanks. Interesting that the Dubrovnik seems to be getting a lot of love so far. It's a very high quality reproduction of the set used at the IX Chess Olympiad and during a 1992 rematch between Fischer and Spaasky. This set was derived from the set during that rematch. Long known to be a favourite of Fischer. It's not as "original" as the others.
Although the 1962 Soviet Championship set (brown) is a reproduction, this was only possible with a lot of research and development from @cgrau in this community and NOJ to produce. It was a painstaking process to save from extinction. A project of love and passion.
Best Chessmen Ever (black) and GM Pavasovic (white) are original designs. @ifekali from this community designed BCE.

Not a fan of NOJ's interpretation of the Tal knight, it looks like a duck. Of these four sets, clearly the Dubrovnik with it beautifully dyed burgundy "black" pieces.
This ^^^^
Echoes my thoughts perfectly, including the "duck".
Chess porn! Here are a few sets from my collection. I've never done a photo shoot, perhaps I should have used some lighting and used a tripod. My board is magnetic in four pieces so I didn't even use the full board. I used portrait mode. Let me know what you think.
I'd love to know which are your favourite pieces or sets.
