Source for wooden chess boards that are foldable more than two times?

Hi,

Not sure how to correctly put this. I would like to get a wooden chess board that is easier to carry around than a typical tournament size board which is foldable in the middle (because that's still pretty large). I could imagine something like 4 pieces that you put together, given that's stable enough. Use case would be to be able to put them into a normal backpack and bring to play with friends in coffee shops etc.

Any ideas? I couldn't find something like that.

The amazing JigChess. Jigsaw puzzle chess set.

/ I know you want tournament sized. Just buy a big wooden board and cut it up with a jigsaw. Problem solved.

That looks funny, but not very practical. wink.png

Cutting with a jig saw makes sense, unfortunately I don't have one. Also you would require some kinds of magnets to hold it together.

This guy (who has a really cool channel) built a prototype that gets close, but as far as I can see this is not commercially available:

You could invest in collapsable, magnetically held boards such as these offered by Colorado Woodworks or chesshouse. They are quite portable and fit regulation tournament board specifications. The first two photos displayed are called the "Tower Series" boards by Colorado Woodworker available with various playing square sizes on the etsy.com website. The latter two photos is called "The Stack" tournament size edition from chesshouse.com but a bit more pricey, both are of excellent quality. I believe they are U.S. based companies and there would be import shipping charges incurred to you destination.

Those are incredibly well looking and well engineered happy.png

Unfortunately for the use case a little to expensive - having them in a coffeeshop and spilling drinks over them wouldn't be cool, so should probably be a simpler alternative.

The video you had posted of the BCE magnetic boards are no longer being sold so I guess your options of what you seek seems a bit limited in choices of availability. All the best and good luck in your search SP.

Yes, I'm aware that it's kind of nonstandard, that's why I'm asking here. Thanks for your pointers!
