Which book should I get as a beginner? I love to read and learn best that way. I'm stuck between the two.

IMO, the Soviet Chess Primer isn’t at all a beginner book, despite the title. On the other hand LCMBM is a great choice. Following some of the sidelines might be a bit much if you’re really just starting out, but apart from that it’s very approachable and covers a lot of fundamental ideas.

If you’re a total beginner I would recommend TSCP. It was a great book that really lays a great foundation for all of chess.

If you want a game collection and like to learn as you go and figure things out yourself, logical chess is great

If the Logical Chess move book you are talking about is the Chernev book….skip it. He makes you think you don’t need to analyze, and instead just sit back and philosophize.

^ do you have a better suggestion then @Ubik42?

I think beginners don't know the first thing about analyzing games, and I don't know what a better starting book is

Btw, I still consider myself a beginner, and I'm enjoying The Soviet Chess Primer.

Logical Chess' writing seems a bit puerile, and I can flip through pages pretty easily, whereas I like the density of the Soviet Primer. It takes me time to work through the book, but I enjoy it.

Well it’s not a game collection but one book I think would be fantastic for starting out is Susan Polgar “Chess Tactics for Champions”, though it’s perhaps more intermediate than beginner. But if you can work up to it, great. Repeat the puzzles until they are easy!

Alekhine’s “my best games of chess” is a good start because games and notes are very clear and thorough. Ignore the outdated comments on openings.

Silman’s Endgame Manual is great for beginners and up.

Those world be my 3 picks, maybe also an easier tactics book before Polgar, not that it’s hard, but maybe it’s too much for a total beginner.

Soviet Chess Primer is recommended primarily for players rates 1500 and higher.  It would be extremely challenging, and over the head of beginners.  Check out instead...
