The Saga continues ...
In my work of digging up these beautiful Spanish chess pieces, which always struck me with as much character as the Lardy, the Chavet, Soviet, and so on ... Today, a rarity that maybe never appeared  in  this Forum.

Staunton, Staunton, Staunton ...
Well not  Staunton today !
First, look at this modern version of the original set !!

Truly awful! I do not say the Spanish seller of these pieces, however You see why I realize my anger! Many sellers without logical explanation,  or consistent idea , when they make a reproduction of chess pieces, they make two miracles:

A-    - murder the original set ;

- thinking that are innovating or improving the original, can transform chess pieces on an object "kitsch", tacky, vulgar.

Never learn! Who likes chess pieces, collecting chess sets, those that are rarities, or inaccessible, we want a faithful reproduction of the preciousness original If you do not have the original, look at photographs,  chess covers magazine or chess books and ... not invent!

For years, searching these pieces that I saw in chess books or magazines. Look:

But when I saw this catalogue, this set became vice!

A-    Here are pictures of my original set, perhaps the oldest Spanish chess set I knew. Without giving a precise date, I dare 20-30 years. The "patina" of this set is wonderful, how wonderful was the contrast between the White-Yellowed pieces and the red ones (very common this combination of colors from the nineteenth century to the years 30-40) The “garbo” of The rooks, the Tickness of the Knights, are marvellous.
A sadness in this set: Like Anne Boleyn the queens are decapitated, but I do not care. I Like chess pieces with wounds, sores, signs of feroucious fights on the chessboard, of time trouble, drops of the tables.
..then When they  smell the tobacco or cigar can still love them more.
The name of this wonder?
AJEDREZ ESPAÑOL of Escardibul.

Wonderful post. Take solace in the inability of a headless queen to talk back.

I love those rooks. I wish more sets had that castle feel to them.
