Steps Method

Has anyone used the Chess Steps Method? Would love to have discussions with anyone who has or is currently going through it now.

A more or less non-verbal presentation of exercises and no solutions given ever.. you could feel as lonely as the respective chess pieces drawn on the covers. I got stuck in steps #4.. but then I do not finish most chess books, why would I force myself here? I remember I liked the way the endless series of puzzles were circling the themes, a good concept.

The "steps method" books are aimed towards absolute beginners (gradually advancing into strategy etc in the later steps). They are ment to provide exercises which complement the things learned from a teacher following this method (and who follows the instructor books of the method).

On their own, the practice books offer no explanations and no real value as such.

Yes I used from step 1 to step 4.

Im currently in step 4. this is highly recommended. It makes ur logical reasoning absolute. Good for tactics training, simple endgames, defensive plays and bringing some good moves from absolutely nowhere.

I'm going through Step 1 and 1+ now (also planning on going through extra and mix workbooks).
I'm going through It partially for my own improvement, but also in preparation for using the curriculum with my elementary school age child's school chess club.
Happy to chat more about the whole thing. I love it so far! easy to follow and teaches CORE basics and fundamentals (come to find out, I'm severely lacking in LOL)

@danoslo Great to hear! I am going through step 2 myself, and although many of the puzzles seem basic I'll get about 90% correct, which means there is always something I overlook. I really need to put in the time to finish step 2 and look forward to moving on to step 3.
