Stockfish engine : can it use both cores ?

The .md extension is for markdown files. They are just text files that can be opened in Windows Notepad.
There is a simple way to enable multiple cores. (Use GUI of your choice and peruse the engine's settings, look for the "Threads" parameter.)
Here's me enabling 8 cores in Stockfish DD 64 on my mac:
I believe this should work with the 32-bit version also.

Recently I downloaded Stockfish. My system is running 32 bit XP, but the CPU has two cores. Other engines will use both.
The 32 bit version of Stockfish is called Stockfish DD. It will use only one core ( I've tried several UCIs ). The analysis of a 40+ move game can take over 24 hours on my 7-year-old computer, vastly longer than other engines.
Strangely the readme file distributed with stockfish is a .md file. My Windows system cannot read this file, as it requires proprietary software(Mayura Draw). It passeth all understanding why software distributed under the GNU public license requires purchased software to peruse the readme.
At any rate does anyone know if there is a way to employ both cores ?
