Storing chessmen upright vs in a plastic box

Right now, I'm storing 2 sets of chessmen in a plastic box, and that box inside of a shoe box. Is there any disadvantage to the pieces not all being perfectly upright. There is some overlap on surface area/volume, but plenty of room where each piece can still easily expand and contract easily in response to the environment.

Do not worry about this trivial thing. For one it absolutely makes no difference whether it is wood or plastic.

More importantly, do not worry about how you store the chessmen or if they get scratched, fall, get touched whatever. The reason is something I think other people in this forum will confirm. We buy a nice chess set and it stays there for years not being played and not having any reason to use them. You’ll see that they will acquire much greater sentimental value if you play them regularly and if their appearance shows that people were regularly using them. That way it will be associated with some memories and it will be more meaningful if you give it to someone in the future.
