You can use the chess.com app...
Studying along with chess books (without a board)

Yes, basically any chess application will let you set up positions, input moves, go over variations, and even let you play out positions against the computer. I, personally, like using scid as my all-in-one training tool, but it has a slight learning curve to it and does a lot more than what you want. I also don't know if it's great for Mac products. Get like Fritz or something if you want to buy something.

Awesome! The chess.com app lets you do this? Anyone know any good mac apps that do (hopefully without spending too much $$$)?

Maybe search here for Mac chess products threads or start one with Mac in the topic.
In the meantime, maybe Sigma chess demo would be sufficient.

For you iphone: Shredder or Shredder lite(free) you can analyze while you input the moves you want. It shows you who has the numerical advantage for black or white (+/-), it has an arrow display showing who has advantage. It also has an arrow on the board showing the best piece to be moved and where.
Stockfish for iphone is very nice too (free). It has analysis also with the numerical advantage for black or white
Hi, guys, new to the site--just trying to get back into chess after a long break. What do you guys recommend for studying games along with chess books when I'm on an airplane with no travel board. I will have access to the internet on my mac laptop, and have an iphone. Is there any software/site that will let me set up games manually as I read them from a chess book in order to study the moves?
Thanks, and sorry if this has been asked before, but none of the searches I tried came up with anything.
