Beautiful. Love the grain and colors.
Stunning Birdseye maple and Leopard wood chess board just arrived.

That is some topnotch Birdseye maple there. Most you see theses days are not nearly as figured
Not that I am in the market for another chessboard but who is the woodworker on Etsy?

Wow, thats the type of amazing wood grain that one wood expect to see in veneers not solid wood boards. Beautiful.

EJGwood on Etsy.
He still has a few imperfect boards for sale. Some are even in the $80 range. And when he says imperfect, we're talking about maybe 1/16" off. Most "normal" people won't even notice it unless it's pointed out.

Congrats! Looks good. I think my Dovetail Artistry board has curly maple but it isn't as good as your. I like the 3d effect of the curly maple grain.

Very nice board! This kind of maple is also very apreciated in violin making, as well as the curly (flamed) maple, they both have the 3d effect and are quite expensive, specially the birdeye and that could be the reason because is usually found as a veneer.
Birdseye maple and Leopard wood chess board, $110 shipped (Etsy). Solid wood, 2" sq, borderless design.
This beauty really shines in the morning light. The woodworker was patient with all my questions. Honest and detailed in his answers. Knowledgeable and informed about wood species. And has a fine artistic eye for wood grain.
Full disclosure: This board was pre-made and available for purchase with small imperfections in it's manufacture. It was fully disclosed in the accurate item description and discounted to reflect this. Still 100% completely usable. The stunning wood grain was just too beautiful for me to pass up.
FYI. Leopard wood (dark squares) usually has more prominent spots in the wood — hence the name. The wood he chose was more finely grained with less spots to better showcase the highly figured Birdseye maple which IMO is the star of this board.
Enjoy the pics!
