Do you think they look OK on a 2.25" vinyl board? Kind of hard to tell from the pictures. Wish they had an option to make the pieces a little bigger, closer to 95mm mark. Not sure I could use those in a USCF tournament.

move closer to computer screen, closer, closer, a little more, almost there, closer, just a little more, i think you almost got it, there... how is that?  can you see them better now?  Laughing

too funny...

Want larger pieces?  if you soak them in water for a few days you can stretch them and then dry them in the sun.  If that doesn't work I would return them... Laughing

i can't help you any further... really, just can't do it...

Thanks for the pics Ken. My Kings look just like yours. Looks OK on a 2 1/4 inch board. Its a little spacious but, still looks fine.

i agree, i like a little extra real-estate on the board... more room for my hands that never seem to have enough room to move the pieces around.

Here are 6 more pictures of the Swedish pieces next to the standard USCF scholastic tournament pieces.  Yes, on a standard board with 2.25 inch squares.

Thanks! the only piece that looks noticably smaller is the king but I think that's largely because it's stem is so slim compared to the USCF standard king. May have to fetch my own set!

welcome.

i don't care for the USCF set much... it's okay, seems to be widely accepted... especially for scholastic players who like to "fit in", i even recommend this set as a first set.

so far i like the Swedish set better.  but that's just me.

if you are serious about tournament use here in the USA... not sure, but I think you might find a few that will dispute the “legality” of the bishop.  i think it is okay, meaning legal.

This set will definitely get some discussion an interest at the coffee shop

I doubt that the hard maple pieces will ever warp or crack since they are unweighted.

The more I look at this fine set, the more I like it. Its a simple design but, simple is sometimes way better than all the fancy sets. There is not much you can chip off or break on this maple chess set.

I have to agree, i think these chess pieces are growing on me.

"Stockholm 1937 Chess Set"

Swedish chess pieces 1920-1950. After World War II, these chess pieces fell into disuse

On November 28, 1941, chess simultanies were held by the great master Rudolf Spielmann.

The result of the simultaneous in Upsala 1941, on 46 boards was 28 won, 12 tables and 6 defeats. A little less than a year later, on August 20, 1942, he died in Stockholm in the greatest poverty, a sad end for a great chess player.
