Silman's Book? it's great. But I think you should start with "How to reassess you chess". You will learn a great deal.
The amateur's mind

Love the book, and since it's intended for slightly lower-rated players than How to Reassess Your Chess, I think it's ok to start with Amateur's Mind, but I have not yet gotten to HTRYC, so can't be sure which is better to start with.

HTRYC is a great book, but according to Silman it is aimed at people who are past the novice stage and starting to become intermediate players, say 1400 over the board and higher. I have looked at it, but it was just slightly advanced for me, althought I felt I got alot out of it. It is something that I should probably review soon, I am sure I would get a great deal out of another read.
I have heard very good things about the Amateur's Mind, and have also heard it is more accessable for the novice, but I have never got my hands on a copy for a first hand look.

I think if you read first "How to..." will be easier to understand "Amateurs". The first one is centered in chess strategy, the other one how the amateur miss-interpret the concepts of the game... both are good, anyway
Hey guys just got this book called the amateurs mind. Have heard good things about it but wanted know the opinion you guys have.
