I used to have it but I tossed it out after reading it. It disappointed me and it did not cover the ground I expected an Idiot's Guide on the subject to cover. It lacked some key discussion on opening principles and fighting for the centre, among other things. I felt it also lacked clarity and logical progression. The Idiot's Guide to Chess is much better...
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Chess Openings
I received it as a christmas present and I thought is was alrite. I think using the web is better however.

The original Idiot's by Wolff is excellent. Thumbing through the Openings book left me wishing that Wolff had been part of the project. I found Openings to be pedestrian, repetitive of what's already our there, and less than practical for a relatively new player like myself. Whereas the presentation Wolff used for the original Idiot's found gold.

Well, none of you sound enthusiastic about the book. Now, like all of you, I loved Patrick Wolff's CIGTC. But this book by a different author may be totally inferior.
I need a good book on the openings. I have Seirawan's. Maybe that should satisfy me.
The thing that keeps me coming back to the idea of ordering this book is it is a part of the CIGs, and most of them I have had have been good.
Does anyone else want to comment?

I just saw this on Amazon. It came out in November 2008 and is by William Aramil. Have any of you seen this? It is not by Patrick Wolff like the CIG to Chess was. This is Mr. Aramil's first book.
It sounded good to me for a not too hard book on the openings. What do you think?
