Hi Mike, I would like to know your opinion regarding  a comparison between the Baku  golden dyed set and the boxwood/ebonised set.

Thanks

Bobby

Hi Bobby!  Not much difference between the two. CB made the base a tad wider on the Queen and Pawn of the golden dyed set. I have the Golden Dyed set and love it. Because of this I just order their  lacquered ebonized/boxwood version which I should have in a few more days. CB also offers it in a buff finish. After CB's discounts you can't beat the price for either set.

Hi Mike,Thanks for your help,I went with boxwood/ebonized in the buff finish.Your right get price with the discount.

You're welcome Bobby, let me know how you like the buff finish as I ordered mine in the lacquered finish.

Mark, the total weight of my set  is 37.7 oz.not counting the extra queens. The pieces have a good feel. The wide base pieces make  this set great for blitz play.

Btw,It's kinda' funny(to me) how the Knight may come off as not so hot looking on their own,but when looking at the set as a whole.......It's pretty much perfect, not to mention "gotta' have it" unusual!

Hi Mark! yes the Baku knight is peculiar looking but quite intriguing in its own right which adds to the beauty of this set

I hope the gloss finish is as well done as the Soviet Repro set.....That was a masterpiece!

Wow!!!!!!!! ChessBazaar made even this set, and I am originally from Baku, I played it in early 197x!!!

My deepest respect and "Thank You" to ChessBazaar:

And thank you @goodknightmike for publishing historical pictures from this tournament, it was before I was born happy.png

I am in the process of turning a Baku 61 set at about 75% scale to fit a board with 1.75" squares. I appreciate the different views as they show details not available in the ChessBazaar pictures.  I like the Russian styles and this set is a fairly basic design but elegant.
