This book is a great chess book.  Jeremy Silman gives Grandmaster Techniques in the Complete book of Chess stategy.  This book fetures the opening, middle game, and the end game.  The Complete book of Chess Strategy also tells you a lot about almost all the openings in chess.  This book also tells you about practical matters, and has quizes at the end of each chapter.  You can get this boock for only 20 bucks!

Thanks for information I'll put it to good use

How does this book compare to his other books?  It was written before his other three well known books, wasn't it?

I just finished "The Complete Book of Chess Strategy" by Silman and thought it was pretty good.  Very comprehensive, going over all aspects of the game, but doesn't get really deep into any one area.  Good for someone like me who is getting back into chess after a long hiatus.  Could use an index though.

The one thing I'd like to pick out (and subsequently contradict) from your short review is that his book 'tells you a lot about almost all the openings in chess'. For anyone considering buying this book, please note this IS NOT the case, as there are way to many openings to try talking about in one book. I'm sure what mwzhou means is, all the MAINSTREAM openings.

This one is good for beginners or intermediates who want to get an overview and explanation of a lot of chess terms, but his other books are better for improvement because they simply delve deeper into the important areas.

Yes jontsef, but he delves deeper into one area in other books, and in this book he tells you about more stuff, such as some tactics, the endgame, middlegame, etc.  Its kind of like a brief overview
