Browse the list of books I have... maybe one of them will ring a bell:

And although I know you were attempting to be as descriptive as possible, please note that your description does cover a wide range of books. Lots of hardcover books with descriptive notation, with games from the masters, were published. The one big clue is the "introduction" to castling. I think this narrows it down. (Lots of books mention the rule of castling, but not how it came about or was introduced.)
Hi. I forgot the title of a book i had when i was still very young. It was in a hardcover black color. It is the games of all previous masters in chess like morphy capablanca lasker alekhine and many other masters.
The first part was actually a game between a royalty (prince of some sort) and a master.
Other parts actually was even the introduction of castling.
Other parts i remember was the annotation of morphys reply to ruy lopes of a6 .
The notations were still in old style like P-K4.
It was a collectors book and very good to study the development of chess from the great masters but i seems to have lost it and i am trying to find it online.
I hope someone know the title and author of this great boom.
