Trying to make my DGT Centaur look nicer.

I used a HOS 3” set with blood rosewood and *two* metal disks for each chess piece. For the squares I used simple vinyl shelf liners in a wood pattern. The hint of red in the dark vinyl squares looks great with the darker red of the blood rosewood (picture does not do it justice). I have the lighting for the squares set to high.

How did you fix the vinyl? Is it glued down or temporarily fitted? I’m thinking of doing this with mine :)

I simply measured 1 and 7/8 inches and make a small mark with a pencil (I’ll post a picture or link to pencil if anyone asks) and used one of those paper-cutter things with the arm that comes down as it... you know... cuts the paper. The vinyl itself has a paper backing; so I just removed it and carefully lined them up within the square. It’s not what I would call “sticky”, more like “grippy”, so you can remove it and try again if it’s crooked.

Oh oh oh, one more thing. I had The Queen’s Gambit playing on Netflix while I worked on this. I finished at the point where she was in Benny’s basement doing chess-related things.

The DGT company should have provided better looking options as an upgradable option.  Different piece sets and a real wooden board option. 

The DGT Centaur is a sensory board. The metal disk allows the computer to tell if a piece has been moved.

Fantastic stuff. This are the same metal stickers I used to convert my pieces but would never have thought about converting the board. Possible a nice little project for me over Xmas. Thanks for the inspiration:)

Best DGT Centaur customization to date! Thanks for the inspiration, but I doubt that I'll be able to do this myself. Now if replaceable versions of the vinyl overlay were to be offered just like the AmChessEq.com wood pattern boards, I'd buy them.

Could you take a digital file of a wood chess board (whatever wood you prefer) with 1 7/8 squares set the size to fit exactly on the Centaur and have it printed on thin vinyl or or some overlay material that will still show the indicator and sense the pieces and set the whole thing on the centaur as one sheet, rather than all that cutting and placing?I have a cutter, but getting 64 squares cut exact and lined up is knightmare (pun) I’m not will to attempt.
I personally like the Centaur how it is .... clean, modern.... the board is white and light grey. Easy on the eyes.... but easy change options would be nice ....
